New Shop Decks just came in, all sizes. A whole rack of 8.5's. Pretty blown I have to live with my selfish deck since these just came in.

Street League Statistics

Let me start by saying I hate Street League.

Everything it said it wasn't going to be it is. Do you remember when Dyrdek buttered us up by saying street league was going to be a place for up and comers to get noticed or that he is tired of how all other contests only care about consistency? Street League is only open to the most unbelievably established pros and this contest, more than any other before, is all about consistency.

Some Choice commentary from the contest about consistency.

After Prod fell twice trying switch tre flip: "You know how it is when you skate, you get stuck on a trick and you want to do it. I don't want to see that here because every trick counts." Berra

After Chaz fell once! trying to feeble to back tail a long tall rail: "Chaz again showin a little bit of his weakness here in the technical section" Berra

This format obviously just encourages people to try easy tricks and land all of them instead of trying a few times for hard tricks. Malto figured this out. Someone asked him what his strategy was right before he won the second stop. He said, "I just want to do easy stuff and land it".

Pretty much everyone realized while they were watching the pros would try a lot harder tricks if they had some room to fall. Something like if only the top 3 scores out of 7 tries counted for each section. I compiled the data and here is what the ranking would have been had that been the rules.

I especially now vouch for the 3 out of 7 rules because it put shane oniell in the top spot which he obviously deserved. (Possibly just for the first try nollie flip noseslide bigspin out)

Another Gripe I have is with what counts as a fall. Here are screenshots of landings that earned 4.6 and 2.5 respectivly

Berra and Drydek Remided us repeatedly that as long as your body doesn't hit the ground it isn't a fall. I'm gonna apply that rule to my next video part to get kids really hyped on my double hand drag toe drag landings.

The screenshots also point out another problem, all that shit on the screen. Is it really needed the entire broadcast. I wanted to go back to see if Chaz did a flip 5-0 or a flip feeble and I got this

The only positive thing I have to say about Berra is he did ask the question that was on all our minds, "Rob, what's going on with Prod's hat?"

On a final note you can say that Dyrdek at least brought the fun back to skate contests, oh wait.

On being asked what his strategy was for the second stop, "I'm thinking less fun, more I'm gonna win" - Mike Taylor (he did not look like he was kidding about that 150 G's)

Radio Show About Skateparks

On the Kojo Nnamdi show from Thursday Kojo talked with Darren Harper (who Kojo called Darrell) and the local skate activist Sk8ter Mom about the fight for better skateparks in the area.

I was hoping they were going to talk about all the problems with the many many lame skateparks in the area. Mostly they just focused on how The new Silver Spring park is waayy too small and how the incredibly terrible Shaw park is the only skatepark in DC. Sk8ter Mom said "7 skaters can use this park at one time" about Silver Spring Park. That is awesome to think about when you roll up and there are like 35 kids skating. Another personal fav is when parents bring real young kids thinking this is a nice open community park, only for their kids to be terrified of the rippers that are at the park everyday.

A big part of the show was also dedicated to convincing listeners that skateboarding is a good way to keep teens from becoming criminals. They harped on that point more than 10 times. I enjoyed when super old listeners called in to complain about how much skaters damage the monuments in DC.

Fixed some ramps and a Lazy Video

I spent the last 2 mornings fixing some of the gaping holes in the masonite around the park. The cancerous tumor is gone from the new kicker.

And the 3 stair looks good as new.

First order of Business, GVC was just approved to carry the Habitat Footwear line this Fall. So those shoes should be here in about 3 weeks and we will be 1 of only 2 shops in MD to carry Habitat Shoes.

Lots of Pro Decks, LOTS of 8.25's we have been short lately and I'm making up for it now.

Those TPuds ones are going to be 58$ with grip because they have P2 technology. The sticker on them says msrp 70$ so good luck finding a deal like this at any other shop!

Today is August the 5th and GVC just got a whole lot of new product and some new ramps as well

Like 50 new pro decks, the new Bakers are my favorites

Awesome new Globes Also came in today! The Motley Mids are in Grey and Black both of those are 55$

The new Globe we got is called the lighthouse, its a sick basic shoe that only costs 45$

A Bunch of Homies also helped last night and we fixed up the park a bit. The Hubba down the 2 block got lowered so it is much easier to skate, we took the flatbar out so now the 2 block is wide open, and we built a big bank ramp to skate up the 2 block

We got in one! copy of the new transworld vid Hallelujah. Its 20$ I would have ordered more but the Internet killed the video star

The Shake Junt hat we got looks way sicker than I thought it would. Only 20$ and it has the sick under the brim logo

Also got some nice shake junt glasses, only 4$

After months of kids begging we also got some of the Mob graphic griptape, its an extra 5$ to have put on a board.

Finally a guy from B-more sent me like 25 copies of this video called the midwig project. It has tons of sick local skaters like Spencer Brown, Matt Ray, Zach Dykes, and like 10 more. We are selling the DVDs for 3 bucks a pop.
